Gus Kenworthy’s Sochi puppies have arrived!

The puppies landed in New York on Wednesday and were reunited with Kenworthy on Thursday.  Sadly, though, one of the pups, named Sochi, passed away.

Big thanks to Gus Kenworthy for bringing these beautiful dogs home with him and giving them a great life.

The Walking Dead: Some Thoughts About “Claimed”

(Spoilers for The Walking Dead episode “Claimed”)

As the games of the Sochi Olympics come to an end, I am happy to have The Walking Dead hitting its stride.  I like the way the second half of the season is unfolding.  While I still think that it’s unrealistic that everyone from the original group will manage to find each other (maybe at Terminus?), I also think that it’s nice to see individual characters in a closer light.  Seeing Michonne interact with Carl, and having her reveal more and more about her past to him, makes me realize that she never would have been so relaxed if she was still at the prison.  She wants to bond with Carl and this is the time for it.

I’ve mentioned before that I’ve never read the graphic novels, so I don’t know anything about Abraham and his group.  Judging from what he said of his mission, I wish Eugene hadn’t shot the gas tank.  I wish they would have continued on to Washington DC.  It would have been fun to see what’s going on in a metropolitan area.  That’s what I’m dying to see.

What is Terminus?  Will everyone reunite there?  It seems to be that way, but it’s always possible that not everyone will make it there. All I know is that I’m quite enjoying the narrative style presented by this half of the season.  It’s fresh and exciting and it allows for so much more storytelling.  I can’t wait to see what happens!

Gus Kenworthy and the Sochi Stray Dogs and Puppies

At long last I’ve found a story to make me smile when thinking about the Olympics.  American Skier Gus Kenworthy heard about the Sochi stray dogs and found a litter of puppies.  Now he’s making arrangements to take them home with him.

The Russians who are smuggling the dogs out of Sochi are also heroes.

The fact is that these Olympics are bringing out the goodness in people…my only regret is that the media didn’t bring this story to light soon enough to help more dogs.

Great work, Gus Kenworthy.  You are awesome.

Clive Lewis, the Olympics, Dogs, Giraffes, Blackfish, and a Captured British Army Dog

Clive Lewis is talking about the Olympics.  He feels that the games are losing their luster.  Are they worth it?

I don’t know.  I don’t think the games are about athletes anymore.  Now it’s about nations showing off, sometimes with money they don’t really have.  Look at all of the magnificent structures that the Chinese built, only to have them sit in ruin now.  Greece is in major financial trouble, but they made sure they had a good Olympics.

I’m with the caller that is boycotting the Olympics over the dogs being killed in Sochi.  Russia is famous for having dogs that ride the subways.  Now they’re a nuisance for the next two weeks, so they’re exterminating them.  Sometimes humanely, but mostly horrifically.  And no one is talking about it.  It’s awful.

And now there’s a story about the giraffe named Marius who was killed in Denmark with a bolt gun and dissected and then fed to the lions and tigers, all because he was genetically undesirable.  And all in front of a so-called “enthusiastic” crowd.  They couldn’t give him to another zoo because of the “rules” even though there were places willing to take him.  Apparently, being dead is better than having a giraffe fall into the hands of a wildlife park.  Heaven forbid.

And it’s been a week since anyone on CNN has mentioned the army dog that the Taliban captured in Afghanistan.  The soldiers touted having a US dog, but the US denied ownership.  The poor creature looked terrified.

I don’t know.  These things bother me.  I haven’t watched Blackfish and I won’t.  But frankly I don’t understand why the people who are so passionate about Blackfish were silent as the dolphins were slaughtered in Taiji.  An albino calf was torn from its mother to be shipped to an aquarium while its mother was probably slaughtered.  I’m sorry, but life in a small tank is much better than being corralled and slaughtered .

I needed to get that off my chest.  It’s been bugging me for a while.
